Data from LaingBuisson Reports (Care of Older People, 27th ed, 2015 and Care Cost Benchmarks, 7th ed (2015-16) was cited in the Communities and Local Government Committee report into the provision of funding for adult social care.

Responding to the report, William Laing, Director, said:

That self-payers pay 43% more than councils for the same service was a key finding of research that we undertook into this market two years ago. Clearly this is not sustainable. While we welcome the additional £2 billion for social care that the Chancellor announced in the budget, much more action is needed from the Government, and this does not only come down to funding but also to how services are structured and delivered. Fundamental to this is a properly trained and appropriately paid workforce providing an acceptable level of care for all, no matter what their means.
