TRUSTED, VERIFIED DATA
Cloud-based tools providing interrogation, visualisation and export of datasets
The LaingBuisson data team maintains an SQL data warehouse with a wide range of datasets from multiple markets, curating the data by collecting, cleansing it and linking it. Sources include public sources, Freedom of Information requests and APIs as well as original research from surveys and our own time series of data built up over many years.
Our tools enable clients to analyse the data, present it visually in dashboards and charts and export it to combine it with their own data. We can offer APIs to integrate with client’s own systems and proprietary data.
Real-time information on the CQC’s Fundamental Standards of Quality and Safety with analysis of care home performance in real-time, for marketing, planning, benchmarking and strategy, combining accurate information with flexible searches and exportable data. CareMonitor allows granular data searches using over 20 fields (including owner, sector, council, size of home, client type, etc) with further analysis facilitated by Excel. This enables you to see how care services are performing against the average and against one another, and customised searches can be downloaded directly to your own reports and presentations. It is linked in real-time to the CQC and other public databases as well as LaingBuisson’s database so it is always the most up to date and accurate, and is checked and verified by data analysts who constantly cleanse the data.

Understanding the real costs behind the provision of care. First developed almost 20 years ago with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Care Cost Benchmarks has become the industry standard tool for calculating care costs. Based on extensive survey work the conceptual framework is essentially the same as that adopted by the Competition and Markets Authority in its September 2017 financial analysis working paper as part of its care homes market study. There are also additional costs now to consider in the light of Coronavirus – namely the costs of PPE – which can be tailored to each provider.

Care Directory, first introduced in 2017, entered service as an electronic format replacement for the directory of providers of health and social care services which was previously published in hard copy as an appendix to LaingBuisson’s annual Healthcare Market Review. LaingBuisson is currently developing an enhanced product with continually updated data and greatly expanded functionality, and therefore Care Directory is not currently available for purchase. This enhanced product will provide details of every group and individual service registered with CQC across the full range of health and care services in England, and the equivalent in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Additionally, at group level, details of senior management and private equity investors will be available. The provisional launch date for the new Care Directory is Spring 2022.
DATA CONSULTING AND SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
LaingBuisson also offers bespoke data consulting – we can assemble a dataset for a client by acquiring the data from public sources (we can scrape websites, use optical character recognition to scan documents and other methods), curate it by cleansing the data so it is accurate, and link it so it can be searched. We can then add incremental data from our own proprietary sources or from client’s own data. In addition, our in-house software development team can build dashboard and data visualisation tools that enable clients to add to and maintain datasets themselves for analysis or to create bespoke reports.
